Some pictures from the Pittsburgh Marathon Expo and parking garage the morning of. My wife, Stephanie, did her second half and I did my second Full. My ex-platoon sergeant ran the full also, along with a relay team from the unit. They finished in the top half for relay teams.
I finished well ahead of my goal of 4:00. I actually even started telling myself I would be happy with a 4:15. I couldn’t believe the results when I check them. I thought for sure I dropped into the 10:00 min/mile pace when I hit my wall around mile 19 or 20, but found out I barely slowed down (for my standards). Astonishing point, I feel really great, all things considered. The roads were so clean and kept up with. The worst parts weren’t even bad. My feet at the finish felt as tender from 6 miles in Johnstown. Huge barefoot victory.
Total Time 3:41:50!
Definitely the most fun I’ve had in a long time. So many people cheering and encouraging. So many great runners to share the road with. Nothing bad to say about the whole experience. Especially the new deep deep dish pizza from Little Ceaser’s on the way home.
Now I just have to recover for a Duathlon in two weeks. I think I’ll be fine. =]
